The City of Timmins acknowledges that we are on the traditional lands of Mattagami, Flying Post, and Matachewan First Nations, within Treaty 9 territory, home to Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, Algonquin, Métis, and Inuit peoples.

Our History

Our History

The Timmins Museum is the last remaining National Exhibition Centre in Canada. Established in 1975 as part of a federal program that created several NECs nationwide, we now operate as part of the municipality through the Corporation of the City of Timmins. The museum is staffed by four full-time and four part-time team members. Conveniently located just outside the downtown core and directly across from an active open-pit gold mine, the museum offers a diverse and engaging experience for visitors, including:

  • A permanent exhibition titled Where We Stand: Stories of the Land
  • A gallery space featuring travelling exhibits from across Canada and curated local exhibitions
  • A dedicated programming space for facility rentals
  • An artist studio space used for children and adult programming, creative workshops, and unique cultural initiatives
  • A gift shop featuring Canadian-made products, including works by more than 40 local artisans and artists who sell their handmade goods year-round

Our Commitment

We are committed to sustainability and recognize our responsibility to our staff, visitors, communities, and stakeholders—locally and nationally. We strive to create lasting value for current and future generations through thoughtful stewardship and inclusive engagement.
